Castlefish, a Vision
Two of the first words that come to mind when describing our family are faith and unity. When Ben began this website in 2009, he hoped it would help focus the attention of our online visitors on those two facets: God (faith) and our family (unity). With this in mind, Castlefish is a hub for the various Hall Family blogs (find these on the "Family Pages" link), helping us stay in touch and connected with everyday happenings. And, while we all have distinct faith walks, the Castlefish community is like a castle, built on the strong, unshakable foundation of the Lord God Almighty.

What efforts are we making to guide our children's hearts toward a love for our Savior?
We actively pursue a family structure that displays our faith in God. By creating a loving, supportive home environment, our children will see Christ-like love modeled by their parents. Daily prayer time and family Bible time help develop a personal relationship with the Lord. Sheltering our children (that's sheltering, not isolating) limits their exposure to worldly ideas until sufficient spiritual fortifications are established.
Why do we choose to homeschool our children?
Ephesians 6:4 says "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
Deuteronomy 6:7 says, "And, thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
There are many, many reasons we could cite to support our decision to homeschool, but the most important ones are based on Scripture. In the Bible, we read that parents are to raise their children up in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord." We feel that placing our children in government schools (or even a private Christian school) for seven hours a day would not allow us enough time to fulfill this God-given task.
Other reasons for home educating include having the freedom to move through curriculum at our own pace, sheltering our children from negative, worldly influences, and encouraging unity as a family.
Why do we keep our children with us during church worship?
"I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1
As the writer of this Psalm, we desire that our children love going to worship in the house of the Lord. From infancy, we want them to see us enjoying worship and modeling how to listen, pray, and sing during the church service. As a family, we can later discuss the Scripture and topics taught on during the sermon. And, being in a multi-generational worship setting is a wonderful way for our young ones to meet and see the example set by older believers.
Why did we decide not to own a television?
We decided against owning a television because we want to encourage a family environment free of social and commercial pressures. Having a peaceful home atmosphere is important to cultivating minds set on Christ, so being television-free eliminates excess background noise (there is enough noise with little children playing happily!) and protects us from the negative attitudes, sarcasm, and vulgarity spoken in most television shows.
Why do our girls wear skirts and dresses, instead of pants or shorts?
As much as modern feminists would hate for us to believe it, God did create men and women differently, with different skills and roles to play in life. We believe that by dressing femininely, in skirts and dresses, we embrace the beauty of God's special design for women. While our salvation is definitely not tied to our outward appearance, our choice of clothing is a visual sign of our beliefs to the culture in which we live.
